~ A Late Summer Mantel ~

Some people paint.

Some people garden.

Some people sing.

Some people write poetry.

Some people (like us) re-style their mantels.

And we know this nesting is part of our art. As we add old books for "lift", layer textures and consider colors, we soon find we are in our zone. That place where creativity comes alive. We see beauty and try to capture a "feeling."

Plaster statues remind me of rural France. Silver trays provide a touch of elegance. Old books give a cozy library feel. The white pitchers and mason jar stemware represent the simple joys of country living.

Hydrangeas and hops vines from the garden fence give their nod to nature,
which is still so alive this time of year.

I walk away with one last glance, satisfied.

And ready to face the dinner dishes...

  1. My problem is that I try to do all of the things you listed and so I don't get it all done.

Your mantel inspires me to freshen mine up for company later this week.

    1. I know what you mean! We just have lots of ideas, right?! We try to squeeze a lot into the day - which is good as long as we don't get frustrated with ourselves when we don't finish everything.

  4. Just lovely!! I enjoy doing that too! It's a huge mess when I do cause I grab something from here and there and before I know it there's stuff everywhere.. But it is so rewarding when it looks just right. That's the creative edge that God put in each one of us. And we get to use it to make our homes look and feel cozy. Very nice Julie!

  9. I love how you decorated your mantel. The vine mixed with the old books and candles make a pretty combination.
