DIY Winter Wreath {Farmhouse Christmas}

Simple has captured my heart lately... with a bent towards minimalism. (Though I am a far cry from a minimalist! Our closets, drawers and barn are nodding their heads. Thanks for selling me out guys.)

I recently came across some grapevine wreaths stored in our garage. (Case in point. Also, I use the term "stored" loosely.) It occurred to me that using greenery from our yard (plus some dried eucalyptus) could make a more simple and unique wreath than the store-bought ones we typically use during the Christmas season.

So I clipped some evergreen and cypress branches from our yard. I also added some eucalyptus from a bouquet that had dried out.

I like the lighter colored leaves and berries of the eucalyptus. But look around your yard and home to see what you have. Sometimes a little unexpected addition to a wreath or bouquet can take it from ordinary to something special!

I used a large grapevine wreath form (originally purchased from Michaels).

As far as wreath making goes, this may be one of the greatest inventions ever... floral wire with an attached wire cutter (found at Michaels)! Did you already know about these (am I just late to the party - again?!)? This wire/cutter was the only thing I purchased to make this wreath. It set me back about $4.

I began arranging the greenery and attaching with wire as I went. I wanted the wreath to have a heavier feel at the bottom and a lighter, airier feel at top...

Last, I added sprigs of eucalyptus...

And that was it to complete our simple, rustic, custom wreath!

Will you be putting a new wreath on your door this season?

I've just begun working on a different wreath for our front door. I have a special spot in mind for the wreath I showed you today. Stay tuned. ;)

Thank you for stopping by...

  2. I've been feeling the need to simplify my holiday decorations as well. I just got a grapevine wreath from Trader Joe's and thought I'd clip some magnolia leaves to go on it.

  3. Very pretty! A couple of seasons ago I made something similar with rosemary, it lasted longer than I expected it to. Love your simple farmhouse style!

  4. Love your wreath :) I'm headed toward's a more natural, simple Christmas. I've picked up and dried 5 different varieties of pine cones and some branches with lichen moss on them. When it cools down I'll start making my live wreath's and arrgs. with evergreen clippings out of my yard.(ok maybe the neighbors too) Doesn't get much cheaper than that !!! I love the dried seeded eucalyptus you used :)) Have a blessed week , TT

    I have a wreath that I could update and hang on an outdoor bench.
    That would be perfect!
