Cultivating A Farmhouse Landscape...

There are many moments where I am captured by the natural beauty of country living.

It feels magical here at times, and I can't help but whisper a prayer of thanks that our family gets to call this place our home...

I've started thinking more about the landscape and what adds to the farmhouse feel that we dreamed of having for so many years.

One of the first things I noticed this time of year are all of the vines.

Vines are all around the property... Hanging over arbors, trellises and gates...
Adding to a farmhouse feel.

There's an old-fashioned quality about wisteria that I love.

Living in a country setting invites you to slow down, "get away from it all,"
and enjoy the simple beauty of nature.

And what would a farmhouse be without a vegetable garden?
The pictures of the garden, below, were taken last summer.

When I think of a farmhouse landscape, I think of open spaces and a sense of freedom. In our case, that includes a pasture area, where horses once grazed, turned into a homemade baseball field... :)

There are certain flowers that remind me of farmhouse living. Lilacs are one of these, with a beautiful, fragrant bloom, that are just perfect in a country garden.

I am always so determined to "get out there" and do some work in the flower beds... until something inevitably comes up. Two flowers I do continue to plant are more hydrangeas and peonies because I just can't get enough of them.

A couple of times in passing, my husband has remarked that maybe someday we'll pave the driveway. My response was a gasp and "I hope we never pave it. I've always wanted a gravel driveway..."

I think that too, has to do with craving simple living.

These full-to-the-brim days of raising our children don't leave us with a whole lot of time for yard maintenance. There are always more projects than hours in the day. But even so, natural beauty is all around.

And my absolute favorite view on our property?

These three, I mean four... :)

From our front porch to yours, thank you so much for stopping by today.

  3. Better too is, you can get a great yearly crop of delicious pine nuts from mugo pine! There are many forms and colors of mugo pine, so you'll have a good time shopping for some evergreen material to suit your edible landscape perfectly. GeorgetownLandscaping
