GIVEAWAY (and Interview)! Eat More Dessert by Jenny Keller

You are going to love this new book...

I was first drawn to it because of the charming farmhouse styled dessert tables. But there's more to it!

Jenny Keller, a stay-at-home mom, began baking up a storm for her children's birthdays and holidays. She found she was just as taken with decorating themed dessert tables as she was with baking. Word soon got out about her delicious treats and creative themes. Before she knew it, Jenny was doing dessert tables for Tori Spelling, Tiffani Thiessen, Lisa Rinna and many other celebrities.

In addition to the inspiring photos, Eat More Dessert contains great baking tips (like how to doctor up boxed cake mixes to easily make a whole table of desserts!).

My husband and I had the opportunity to work with Jenny's husband, Dan Keller, who was our mortgage advisor - when we purchased our farmhouse this past year.

Jenny was happy to answer some questions for us… (Thanks Jenny!)

Q: What are a few key serving pieces or props you would recommend to someone who was looking to create a dessert table for the first time?

A:  I always encourage people to look around their home for display pieces they already own before rushing out to purchase new.  Look around your entire house, not just your kitchen for trays, vessels, crates and even boxes.  Try to work with what you already have.  If you can't find anything, or want to invest in some serving pieces, start with white.  Pick up a few cake plates and serving trays (Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Macys, and Home Goods usually all have a good variety). They'll always come in handy in the future, and will match everything.
Q: Can any of the desserts in your book be made ahead of time or do most need to be made the same day as they will be served?

A:  Almost everything in the book can be made ahead of time.  I typically bake 2 days before an event, and then decorate the day before.  I like to have all the desserts done the day before the event, so the day of I can focus on decorating and setting up.  Cookies and cakes can be baked even earlier, and then frozen until ready to be decorated.

Q: What are your children's most requested of the desserts in your book?

A:  Cake pops!

Q: What were some of your "must haves" in your new farmhouse kitchen?

A:  Since we were building our "forever" home, I went big... My husband spoiled me with a La Corneu range from Williams-Sonoma and a Sub Zero refrigerator. Both are gorgeous!  Other than great appliances, a farmhouse sink was a must, and I also wanted a big island.  Company always gathers in the kitchen, so I wanted to have the seating and space, in addition to lots of room for rolling out hundreds of sugar cookies!
