Last month, we hopped in our European rental car and drove from Barcelona to the little seaside village of Collioure, France...
It's just 15 miles from the Spanish border (2 hours, 20 minutes drive from Barcelona), but decidedly French.
We learned that artists such as Picasso, Matisse and their contemporaries would meet up in Collioure. Do you recognize the framed view of the church, with its lighthouse jutting out into the sea, from a painting you may have seen?
The pastel buildings and pebbled beaches give this Mediterranean village a happy feel (especially when the sun came out!). It was an extra special day when we we visited - our middle son's birthday!
Collioure has been described as being in the "shade of the Pyrenees mountains."
The birthday boy and his brothers enjoyed exploring the once-mighty castle in the background below. Just thinking back to the ledges and drop-offs make this mama's heart race! (But yes, the views were amazing.)
I hope you enjoyed this little escape to Collioure!
If you missed Part 1 - where we visited Carcassonne, you can see it here.
Hope you have a wonderful day...
Au revoir! ;)

Thank you! I hope you have a wonderful time in Europe this summer. My prayers are with the victims and families of this week's attacks in Brussels...
DeleteAmazing! You managed to find a corner of France that looks just a little different from the rest. France is the place against which I compare all others. This summer, I'll see how England's country side measures up...I liked Carcassonne, as well.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean! I would love to explore every corner of France! I bet the English countryside will be wonderful too. I've only been to London and Oxford but would like to go to England again and see more of the country. Looking forward to hearing how you like it!
