Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangeas...

It's hard to believe we're in the third week of August, and our boys will be heading back to school in two weeks. We're soaking up each remaining summer day, while slipping in some back-to-school shopping here and there.

I know some of you are experiencing very high temperatures and humidity. For us, in Seattle, we just started having the best weather of the season, with temperatures in the 80s and lots of sunshine. Some summers here are like that, which makes returning back to school a little tough! Let's stay in denial and talk flowers... :)

I wanted to share our first blooms from our new Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangea plant with you... The blooms have a whimsical cone shape, and will continue to get larger in the coming years as the plant matures.

When the buds first open, they are a beautiful white color (Vanilla). As the warmth of the summer continues, these flowers begin turning a soft pink color (Strawberry), as pictured. Later in the season, the blooms will turn a deeper shade of pink.

What a show!

If you follow us on Instagram, you may have seen our latest additions to our mini farm, two adorable kittens! Pictured below is Walter...

And his sister, Rosemary...

I hope you have a great summer day and week ahead...

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  2. Oh my gosh! Your kittens look just like ours did when they were babies. They were also brother and sister. Your hydrangeas look amazing. We are waiting impatiently for ours to bloom! Do you know if the Vanilla Strawberry variety dry as well as the other kinds? Thank you for the beautiful pictures!

  4. I have found that any of the PeeGee hydrangeas (conical blooms) will dry at whatever stage you pick them, in whatever color stage too, so you can get a lot of different colors off of that plant. The round hydrangeas (Annabelle, etc.) need to be picked when papery so you can usually only get a couple of dried colors. ---Kim

    1. Interesting about the conical blooms! Yes, the round hydrangeas do need to be papery.

  6. Those hydrangeas are the prettiest colors! I've never had any like that before. I wish our weather was as nice as yours. It's still very hot here but at least we've been getting some much needed rain lately. Your kitties are adorable! Every farm needs at least one cat! Ha!

  8. We are having the strangest weather here in Texas. It was 104 last week and now it is in the 80s. I'll take the break from the heat because I'm sure it will be back. I have Oak Leaf Hydrangeas that look similar to that but in Texas they bloom in June. Yours are gorgeous.
