The five of us were driving home from our oldest son's basketball tournament on the other side of the state when we came across a favorite mile marker of mine. About 90 minutes from our house, there's a cute, yet large, old-fashioned fruit market. The fruit market takes up the first floor of the old building and the top two floors are...wait for it... an antique co-op! No one in our car would even glance in its direction on the way to the tournament, but on the way home, I thought I had a shot. And when our youngest needed to make a stop himself, I was golden...
This chippy vintage wheelbarrow had me at first sight. All I could think of its blue color was "Spring!" Then I imagined it stacked with pumpkins in fall. And later, an Instagram friend said how she used one for a tree stand at Christmas.
But then I remembered there were five of us. And we didn't take the truck. So I walked out to join my crew, mumbling something about a cute wheelbarrow. That's when one of my favorite three boys said, "Mom, you should get it! You never get anything." And then I think my husband choked on something.
But it was so sweet of my son to say, and the price was really good. It was just the encouragement that I needed (not that I needed much). Plus, we only had an hour-and-a-half drive left to go. With a little pushing and prodding, I fit her in.
I threw a blanket over it, and it actually created a nice partition between three boys who had been in very close quarters for the weekend. Divine providence in the form of a spring blue wheelbarrow? I think so.
I recently brought some spring treats into our first grader's class.
They were easy to make and whimsical, so I thought I'd share them with you...

What a charming story! It sounds like your family had an unforgettable time at the fruit shop and antiquities market. Your son really wanted you to buy that handcart. A friendly push from our dear ones sometimes suffices. I am happy that it could fit inside your car and you found another way of using it creatively while driving. In case, you need help with bigger acquisitions or car misfortunes, you can be saved by professional towing services. Many thanks for this lovely narration!
