One (Okay Two!) Reasons I blog...

One of the reasons I enjoy blogging is because it helps me
focus on the little things I might otherwise overlook.

Ironically, at other times, it reminds me to stop focusing
on the little things and look at the big picture.

I'll forever be a student learning to recognize
the beauty in the gift of each day.

Some days life seems chaotic and confusing at best.

I'm finding my perspective can be set in a similar way as
how I determine the best angle for taking a picture.

What is my focus on? What am I trying to capture?

For years we dreamed and prayed for a place like this to raise our boys.

Yet if I'm not careful, gratitude and joy gives way to a
giant to-do list and the burden of responsibility.

This simple old ladder parked by one of the cherry trees
stopped me in my tracks yesterday.

I looked at my boys and said, "Guys! We have a (little) farm with cherries!!!"
(For any new readers, this our first summer at our little farmstead - sometimes I still feel like we need to pinch ourselves! : )

If my focus had been on the to-do list, I would have shot
this picture looking down at the ground.

That's where the weeds wave in the wind, seeming
to flag me down and call for my attention.

I asked one of our boys how long he though it would take me to weed our whole yard. He said, "Your whole life."

I'm all too aware lately that the previous owners were better at caring for the land.

The gardens were well kept.

Their horses were beautiful.

But as much as we love our animals and try to tend to our garden and yard, our purpose is not to raise animals, squash or beautiful flowers (though they've graced us anyway - well, the squash is still TBD)

My purpose is not to have a magazine-worthy interior (though I do enjoy feathering our nest!).

Our purpose for being here is right here...

We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lordabout his power and his mighty wonders.
Psalm 78:4

Thank you, dear readers, for being here.

Here's to a day of lifting our eyes from the weeds that drag us down. Here's to setting our eyes on both the big purpose and the beauty in the every day.

You're the best.

xo

  1. Excellent post! Sometimes we focus on the wrong things in life which distracts us from the things we need to focus on the most. I've only been blogging a few months but have learned that keeping things in perspective is the better way to relate a story! Have a great day!
