Decorating with Farmhouse Ladders...

If it's one functioning farmhouse piece of equipment I love,
it's an old wooden ladder... (Or maybe five :)

I thought I'd share where I found our ladders and how much they cost us, in case you are in the market for a ladder and wonder what would be considered a good deal.

Indoors, they add a touch of rustic charm and are great to  hang blankets off (for easy access) or to display favorite farmhouse linens.

My favorite style of ladder is a vintage tripod orchard ladder. The one in our living room below was found at a yard sale, is about 5' 10" tall and cost just $25.

The sun-faded ladder below is kept outside our chicken coop. This is the smallest of our orchard ladders at about four feet. I purchased it at a yard sale for only $15!

The tall, old work ladder by our front door is fun to decorate in any season. I hung mason jar candle holders from the rungs and we light the candles to welcome company. This ladder was purchased at, you guessed it, a yard sale - for $20.

Our two latest finds are pictured below. The one on the left is an amazing 9 1/2-foot orchard ladder that we paid just $30 for (a similar, smaller, 8-foot ladder is currently listed for $95, which I think is more of the "going" price). The old 8-foot ladder on the right was just $20.

Both of these ladders we bought through Offer Up.

With summer entertaining in mind, we had purchased the two ladders to string lights between. The heavy duty outdoor string lights we had were too heavy for the ladders to support over all the tables (the globe-style lighter-weight string lights would've worked just fine!). So, we ended up hanging the lights from the trees but propped the ladders against the trees for a similar look to what I had been picturing...

The prices I shared are ones I consider to be VERY good deals. In areas where there are fewer farms, and less of these types of ladders, I imagine the prices could be substantially more. And, if you don't need a ladder right away, you can keep your eyes open for a good deal. Otherwise, you can find ladders like these more readily available at local antique shops.

Do you use ladders to decorate your home indoors or outside?

What is your favorite way to use them?

I'd love to hear!

Xo
