A 5-Minute Makeover!

Here are a couple of quick tips for making over a chair and pillow in minutes

(No sewing required!)

For the chair, I'm showing two options... one with burlap and one with a feed sack.

Here is the burlap "after" picture:

I started with this slip-covered wingback chair - - looking pretty tired!

I simply hung a burlap sack over the chair and tucked
the sides and bottom into the creases of the chair.

Then, I took a lumbar pillow we've had for years ...

And turned the cover inside out.
Not everyone will approve, but I think it adds to a natural, simple look.

Next, I did the same thing - this time using a feed sack
I had purchased at The Farm Chicks show last year.

Simple, simple.

And now to decide which look to stick with... Burlap or feed sack?

Please help a girl out and cast your vote! :)

Thanks so much for stopping by today.

  1. This is a great idea to freshen up a chair and give a new look. I like them both, but if I had to choose I'd go with the feed sack.

  3. I have used a pillow cover over my kubu chair cushions for a new look and use grain sacks over chairs all the time. I have one over my chair that I am sitting on to keep it from getting so dirty. Both of your ideas look good. The burlap one for some reason looks a bit better to me. I guess because it looks like those deconstructed chairs.

    1. Deconstructed - that is the word that had escaped me! That's what I thought it reminded me of too - not exactly, but it gives that feel. And that's putting a $3 burlap sack to work! ; ) Thanks for stopping by Kim!

  4. I love them both! The burlap is warmer, great for the colder months - then I think the feed sack would be perfect for the warmer days. Anything involving burlap or feed sack is a winner to me. ;) Susan@simplystonecreek

  5. Clever!! I cast my vote for feed sack...a softer, more comfortable look...not as coarse as the burlap on the "sitter":-)!

  6. Love the grain sack, softer and would be much more comfortable. I love burlap but to me there needs to be practicality to. I've never touched a burlap fabric that becconed me to stay for a spell.

  7. Hi Julie! I am a new follower too! And I am here to stay :) I love love your style! I'm going to copy cat your DIY little market kitchen sign, hopefully over this snowy weekend. So, I love both of these, but looks wise I am lovin the burlap look just a tad more. Again, the feed sack is probably softer, and still a great look. I would probably swap them out when I got tired of one. We have a store nearby that has all recycled notions and things and last night I was there eyeing a big stack of burlap sacks at $3 a piece! Hmmmm...I think I have a tired chair in my bedroom calling for 1 of these. Thank you for the inspiration!!
    Blessings,
    Lynn

  12. Great idea for a quick makeover - they are both so pretty! I think the feed sack has my vote, simply because it looks more comfy to me and makes me want to sit down on the chair when I look at it. :) Hope that helps!
