~ Rustic Linen Ruffled Bedding ~

Ever since reading Shabby Chic founder Rachel Ashwell's Couture Prairie book last year, I have been dreaming of white linen ruffled bedding...

My Mom, in a true labor of love, custom made us this bedding for my birthday/Christmas gift this year. She did an amazing job!

Part of the fun was getting to personalize the bedding. My mom and I looked through a lot of pictures. I would tell her what elements I liked best. (Am I dreaming?!

We decided on a medium-weight, vintage-washed linen for an understated elegance.

The king-size duvet and shams have a 5-inch ruffle.
The euro shams have a 6-inch ruffle.

Did you know that the more you wash linen, the softer it becomes?

I especially like the double ruffle bedskirt, with soft tattered raw edges.

All-in-all, it took about 30 yards of linen (!) to make the king-size duvet, shams, euro shams and bedskirt. After searching many places, we ordered the linen fabric from fabrics-store.com in LA.

A huge "Thank you!" to my Mom for this tailor-made heirloom bedding. I will cherish it!

And thank you, in advance, to my three precious sons for remembering that Mom and Dad's room is now a chocolate-free zone! ;)

So glad you stopped by today. I hope to complete some finishing touches to our master bedroom in the coming months. I'll keep you posted...

Hope your week is going well!

    2. I forgot to mention - on Fabrics-Store.com they have a section where you can post pictures of finished projects. Please have your Mom post pictures of the set she lovingly sewed for you - her work is so beautiful it will give inspiration to other sewers looking at the site.

  15. I love everything Rachel Ashwell. I love, love, love the bed spread with all the ruffles and the pitcher of roses. You are definitely using her ideas. I want a bedspread just like this. To buy they are certainly out of price range. The oil prices have almost put my husband out of work. We are praying that he has a job this year so he's got my spending on hold. Beautiful! I found you through Cozy Little House blog.

  21. Hi, Love your bedding! As soon as I saw the picture I realized we have the same bed frame! I got mine at a used furniture place, it was as close to a antique french bed I could afford. I am wondering where you got your set? I just purchased Miss Mustard Seeds milk paint to paint mine. Eeek. :)

    1. OMWord - Are you painting yours grey?! I've been debating painting mine as well!! We actually purchased our set at JC Penney 10 years ago :) for the same reason - - it was the most french-style that was in our price range!! Ours has held up super well - the bed and side tables are like-new after a decade... the armoire doors have always been a little finicky.

    2. I am doing the new European color Bergere & Ironstone, over a dark brown. I am crossing my fingers for lots of layering and chippy goodness! The rest of my bedroom set did not come with the bed, but looking at your set it is very, very close. The dressers and nightstands I am going to strip down and white wax, hopefully leaving a bit of the original white paint behind.

    3. That sounds amazing! Can't wait to see how it turns out. Paint is forgiving... so many techniques to achieve the look - I am sure you'll get there (hopefully sooner than later! ;). Our bedroom set is called "antique white" but there is a yellow undertone. I think what you are describing - adding in the dark brown, with the white will be beautiful. You had me at Bergere and Ironstone. :)

    4. I know exactly what you mean by the yellow under tone. It is to yellow for my taupe/grey curtains and other furnishings, the yellowyness just seems to jump out at me every time I look at the bed frame. I will give you a heads up once it is done. ;)
