When I spotted this old Lucerne dairy crate at a yard sale, it was filled with tools, which were priced, but there was no price on the crate.
I asked if they were selling the crate and they said I could have it for $5. Sold! :)
I found this larger wood crate at a thrift store for $20...
I love its claim of being "the first and original" wire sewed folding box.
(The bottom of the box pulls up to allow the box to fold.)
In our technology savvy world, it's sweet to think of a time when this box was considered cutting edge!
We've used these crates for storage, as recycle containers and as flower boxes.
Have you found any vintage treasures lately? I'd love to hear!

Very thrifty find and the hydrangeas look perfect in it!
ReplyDeleteWell, I have a little addiction to old crates. So much you can do with them, but I just love the way they look. Love your collection!
ReplyDeleteYes, there are a lot of fun uses! Thank you...
DeleteThese are wonderful...love the metal edges on the dairy crate. I did find an old crate this week...nothing special, but thought it would be fun to transform...

ReplyDeleteOh, Julie, I love all the crates but my heart skipped a beat when I saw the Schafer crate. That is where I'm from and both my grandmother and dad worked for Schafers many years ago. The building is still there although it's been abandoned for decades. If you ever tire of it and want to sell it let me know, meanwhile enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is SO interesting. I will keep you in mind for sure, Rebecca! Thank you for letting me know!
DeleteWow! $5?? What a fantastic find!! And it is just so wonderful!! Would love to stumble on some myself. I have a couple, but none with the fabulous metal edging or text. Crates are so versatile! Just love using them for storage and display!
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend is lovely!
Becky
