bHome for the Holidays {A Farmhouse Living Room and a Giveaway!}

I'm so happy you stopped by! It's always fun to participate in a tour with our friends from bHome. I've included their tour links at the end of this post, as well as simple entry instructions for an awesome giveaway that you won't want to miss!

Today, I'm sharing our farmhouse living room, ready for Christmas (except for the gifts under the tree...those will come in time...hopefully on time with all our online shopping!).

The week before (hosting) Thanksgiving, I felt compelled to plank our living room wall as a backdrop for our Christmas tree. Totally normal, right?

It might not sound like good timing, but here's the thing... when you're getting ready to host something, or when there is a holiday coming up, you have a built-in deadline. And that's a good thing. Plus, I've always felt that sleep is overrated anyway. ;)

Of course, I had to take my husband down with me. And while planking a wall might not be his idea of a great Saturday, we had some laughs along the way and were both happy with the end result.

How does that saying go about "couples who DIY together, stay together?"
(Made that up, but feel free to use it. ;)

Our living room tree may be a little "Charlie Brownish" but there are two reasons I love it.

Reason number one: It's dripping with precious ornaments from our three boys like this...

Reason number two: The memories.

We hiked in the snowy mountains together to find our tree...

A $10 Christmas tree permit is all that is required here in Washington state.

The snowball fights are free.

Back inside for a little peek at our piano. Do you remember when I painted it? Well, it's been almost a year, and I'm still glad I did. :)

Thank you for visiting! I'd love to hear from you in the comments below, find me on

  1. Please don't apologize for the "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree ... those are my absolute favorite! Yes, my siblings and I used to tease my mother for buying such trees but I love them now; I feel they are the perfect tree for the holidays. And yes, my kids tease me about it too!

  3. Julie, I love your home! Dressed for Chrristmas, it is just about perfect. Filled with things you love, I can tell your family lives a happy, memory making life there. As for planking that wall? Love it, and yes, totally normal! I once painted our kitchen counters black two days before a magazine team came out because our old cabinets wouldn't hold under the new counters I bought for the photoshoot! So you ( and your sidekick) are in good company. Happy to be doing this tour with you! Merry Christmas! .

  8. I think your home and Christmas decorations are perfectly charming and so warm. The plank wall is fantastic!! Imagine the planks add a nice layer of insulation to the room. Beautiful job.

    1. Thank you! That is interesting that you say that because I really do think it has added some more insulation. That room used to be so cold with all the windows and french doors... it feels like it's holding the heat a little better now. Good observation - thank you. ;)

  11. Timing is everything Julie... don't us DIY'ers work best under pressure. Nice of you to take your husband along for the ride too. You both did a great job. That planked wall looks great and is a perfect backdrop for your Christmas decor. May your family make beautiful memories around that sweet tree this Christmas.
