Our Home Away From Home In Sweden...

Hi Friends ~ I've missed you! It's been quiet here on the blog because our family had a last-minute opportunity to go to Europe for a couple of weeks, and just returned yesterday. Our three sons and I accompanied my husband on a business trip to beautiful Stockholm, Sweden for a week, and then spent the following week on vacation in England. It was a really special time exploring more of the world together and making lots of memories.

I wanted to share "our" apartment in Stockholm with you. We found it through Airbnb and couldn't have been more happy with it! The apartment building was built in the 1800's and has loads of historic charm... tall ceilings, windows and doors, beautiful hardwood floors and lots of wide molding...

The owners used a welcoming mix of antique, vintage and modern decor, appreciating the historic beauty of the building while making it also feel fun and current.

Through the large windows, we enjoyed a view of other old Swedish buildings. Since our stay in Sweden was during late-June, it never truly got completely dark. If our boys were up late (jet lag), I would call them over to the windows and say - Look outside! It's midnight and still light.

This antique green tile fireplace is a focal point that is hard to beat! Talk about a statement piece...

Two sets of tall, white, double-doors lead to the living room. I love the use of the moody, dark gray-blue paint color in the entry way, especially since the rest of the home is so light and airy. The floors in the entryway were painted white, along with the doors, trim and ceiling, so the room can handle the dark walls.

The kitchen is simple and clean with what appears to be the beautiful, original hardwood floors. The tall ceilings make this room feel larger than it is!

The apartment also includes three additional rooms for sleeping, as well as one and a half bathrooms. You can reach the third floor apartment by a circular stairway or a small elevator.

I hope you enjoyed this little tour. And, if you ever get an opportunity to visit Stockholm, do it! It is such a stunning place with lots to explore. I think you would love it!

From the brightly colored historic building in Gamla Stan (Old Town) to the beauty of the Archipelago and its many islands...

To lakeside castles...

And even a really fun amusement park! There is something for everyone here. And compared with other European cities we've visited, Stockholm has a more relaxed feeling to it. (Except when their team wins a world cup game! :)

Have you visited Sweden? Or, do you enjoy Swedish home decor? I'd love to hear!

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Xo

  1. Wow, this is a gorgeous home! It is just my style. I love Swedish decor, but also love antiques. The owners have done a remarkable job in blending the two, as you said. And all that natural light is amazing. Appears to be a happy yet calm environment. Love!
