Sometimes you just need a good excuse for a party.
Last week, we invited our youngest son Lincoln's Kindergarten class over for a pumpkin party. (Hooray for half-day Kindergarten, which occasionally lets us "party" in the afternoon!) About 15 kiddos and their moms came.
My favorite part of the afternoon was when the kids ran out to the field searching for pumpkins. Lincoln and I had hid pumpkins the night before. My little man was so proud to see his friends' excitement - - my heart melted!
It was fun to incorporate some little pumpkin touches for lunch. Thanks to some creative blogs and pinterest, there's no shortage of ideas out there!
Mini "pumpkins" made out of mandarin oranges and little bits of celery for the stems...
And a pumpkin veggie platter with plenty of olives for little fingers...
This old wagon, filled with pumpkins, was parked by the front arbor...
We had a couple of very simple games - including pumpkin basketball...
Tables and benches were set up on the back porch for the kids to eat lunch.
After finding their pumpkins in the field, the kids got to decorate them with stick-on eyes, mouths, mustaches and bows.
It was a special fall day celebrating childhood, friendship and the beauty of the season. I've found with my own children, that whether it is a pumpkin party, birthday party, vacation or holiday, so much of the joy comes from the looking-forward-to-it part as well as re-living it afterwords through memories and conversation...
We'll look back on this one with a smile.
So happy you stopped by!
Xo

Julie, What a wonderful party for the kids (and parents, too). It makes me smile because I did similar things with our kids and their friends when they were young. Those are things they will remember forever. You did a great job with all the food and decorations, too. xo Diana

ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kelly! We had a pumpkin party at our last house - with a small yard - and I think the kids had just as much fun :) but yes, it is nice to have a big yard now for them to spread out!!
