Our Barn Hayloft Home Movie Theater...

It all started when I found four sets of vintage theater seats on Craigslist...

Since I have yet to convince my husband that we need horses, we don't use our hayloft to store hay. So I've always pictured this area as somewhere our boys could hang out with friends. We previously had a ping pong table and foosball table in the loft, which got played with occasionally. But we wanted to take better advantage of the space.

We liked the idea of a home movie theater. After setting up the theater, there was still room to keep the foosball table in the loft, behind the seating. We plan to set up the ping pong table downstairs in the barn (in case you were wondering ;).

Some affiliate links have been provided for your convenience.

We bought two of the IKEA Lappljung Ruta rugs (6'7" x 9' 10"), matched up the patterns, and used a staple gun to staple them in place. The rugs make the room more comfortable and welcoming. I like the more modern pattern paired with the weathered, vintage theater seats. We also have four bean bag chairs that our boys and their friends like to use in front of the theater seats when video-gaming. ;)

My husband mounted this 135" pull-down screen onto a beam, and hung blackout curtains behind it. Behind the seating, he installed this small projector to an overhead beam using this wall mount. He ran the cords along the beam as well, so that they are out of the way. Cords are my kryptonite... and he knows it. I think he nailed it (figuratively and literally)!

We hung blackout curtains at the theater entrance and in the back to help create a darker room and better picture. We were concerned that if one of the kids needed to leave the room, it would be too dark to exit safely. So, my husband used stick on puck lights - which are remotely controlled - on the beam where you enter the theater.

There are many different types (often used as under cabinet/over counter kitchen lighting). Many of them have dimmers. The ones we purchased from Home Depot can turn different colors. We thought it would work well to turn the lights to red to mark the exit while a movie is playing, and white when entering before the movie starts. Here they are, turned red.

And white...

This large, barn wood gate, with a string of lights, blocks the hay door.

And a barn is not complete without some barn cats... We have three, and they love the company. ;)

We recently had an army birthday party for our eight-year-old. After the kids had run and played, we showed a short, vintage GI Joe episode in the barn theater. It was so much fun!

I hope to share more of the birthday party with you later this week...

This marquee sign adds a fun movie theater feel... (Just remember the letters are sold separately.)

Thanks so much for stopping by today.

Hope you enjoyed the show! ;)

  3. A projector since it is a separate unit is positioned in front of the area you want the projector to project its image onto, whether that be a cloth screen or a section of your wall.
