A January / February Farmhouse Entryway...

Affiliate links provided below.

I went to our local garden center yesterday in search of some natural beauty to bring indoors. There was a lot of greenery, but I wanted something softer for our entryway... Something that could work for January, but would remind us that spring is on its way. Not having found what I had pictured in my mind, I was ready to leave when I spotted a large bucket of pussy willow branches!

Summer Farmhouse Family Room {The Mora on the Move...}

Happy August! We've had a nice, long stretch of summer sunshine and warmth, with temperatures in the 80s and 90s here in the Seattle area. Now I know those of you who live in places like Arizona and Texas are thinking, "You think that's hot!?" But we don't have air conditioning or a pool... So I spray my kids with the hose as they jump on the trampoline, or take them to the lake, or sit under a tree if there's even a slight breeze because it's hot inside! We've been roughing it over here, I tell ya. ;) But we dare not complain because here in the Pacific Northwest, I'll take all the sunshine we can get! The forecast is calling for cooler temperatures and even a slight chance of some showers, which our garden is hoping for...

Two Ideas for Spring Farmhouse Flower Arrangements...

I walked out our front door this morning is search of blooms, not entirely sure what I'd find. I spotted these beautiful pink tulips under our tall maple tree, and cut a few flowering branches that line the gravel driveway. I tucked in some sprigs of rosemary and lavender because a good fragrance never hurt anyone. Unless you're allergic. Which come to think of it, explains my sore throat and watery eyes. Still worth it.

Farmhouse Inspiration Roundup... (Home Decor, Favors, and More!)

It's hard to believe it's the last week of school before our summer vacation begins!

While we are all very excited, I always get sentimental this time of year. Our oldest son will soon be an eighth-grader with just one more year until high school! (What? Our middle son will be all done with his elementary years and will be heading to middle school (6th grade) this fall. (Totally unbelievable because he can't be older than six...at least that's how it feels to me.) Our youngest son will be in second grade (And because he's our little caboose, I can't help but think, "We will never do first grade again...").

And if you're new here, that's right. We have three sons. And white slipcovers.
While bolstering the bleach industry, it can be done!

Anyway, since I'm in a nostalgic mood, I thought we could reminisce over some highlights of the past month here on the blog. Just in case you missed anything...

A-Tisket, A-Tasket... A Bench and Market Basket

I've been listening to Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday for decades, so I couldn't resist the "A-Tisket, A-Tasket" post title. Now if only I could figure out how to have the song play when you open this post... (Please pretend, or hum along.)

Speaking of music, some people play musical chairs... I prefer musical benches. This bench has moved from the yard, to the living room, then into the dining room and it now resides in the entryway. Living the life of a gypsy.

CountryLiving.com Feature and a Few Fun Junkin' Finds...

Hi Friends! Happy new week...

Could you hear me screaming from where you live? I was so surprised to see our porch on CountryLiving.com! Country Living magazine has been a favorite of mine for years, so it was such an honor to be featured on their site, in the article 27+ DIY Ways to Decorate Your Porch This Summer. You can read it here.

A Little Luxury in the Bathroom...

Years before I even knew what blogging was, I remember reading about how Martha Stewart folded her washcloths.

For some reason, it intrigued me. Maybe it was because I would have never thought to fold this every day item into a triangle. It made an ordinary washcloth seem a little more luxurious, presented in this unexpected way.

And hey, if it's good enough for Martha...

For years, I've been folding our washcloths in triangles
and keeping them in a little basket by our sink.

Simply fold a washcloth in half twice, making a small square...

Then fold in half diagonally to make a triangle...

Place them in a square or rectangular basket and voila!

I like using basic white washcloths from Target or Walmart
for removing makeup at night. (They're about 50 cents a piece.)

Hope your day is going well!

Farmhouse Kitchen (Simple Solutions)

A lot of living happens here, in this kitchen.
With three growing boys, it seems someone is always hungry!

Especially during these summer days, when the kids are home from school and spending lots of time being active outdoors...they can really work up an appetite.

Some days, I'll just finish washing the breakfast dishes when someone begins asking, "Did we have lunch yet?" (Help me Rhonda.)

I've found a few easy solutions that have made every day
 living just a little smoother...

I recently added this shallow basket with silverware and napkins on the counter. Our boys are still getting used to it and sometimes ask, "Mom, could you get me a fork?" I smile to myself as I answer, "It's right there, honey..."

I'll admit, I'm not the most organized person. So yes, this little remedy brings me satisfaction as I consider the time and energy it has saved. (Small victories.)

Another challenge in our kitchen had been the higher-than-usual cabinets. It was hard for our youngest two boys to get a glass to drink from - - they would climb onto the counter - - dirty little summer feet and all.

I had brought in the white step stool (below) several months ago. It works well when our youngest helps me bake or is "working" at the counter.

However, it is apparently too labor intensive to move across the kitchen when one is teetering on the verge of dehydration.

So, we purchased this affordable ($14.99) wire glass drying rack from World Market.

Now, the glasses are in easy reach for the thirsty kiddos.
(Thanks to my sister for the idea!)

Do you have any time-saving or organizational tips for the kitchen? I'm all ears...

So glad you stopped by today!
