What I Love About Farmhouse Style...

There are many reasons I adore farmhouse style (you too?!).
Here are a few reasons why...

It's fun to repurpose aged items in unexpected ways. Here, we used an old galvanized chicken waterer as a vase. For easy ways to dry your hydrangeas, click here.

Bringing in humble pieces to play up the farmhouse feel, like this old work ladder, is completely acceptable! The ladder provides another layer to the room and helps a flat wall become more interesting.

Hanging a burlap or feed sack over the back of the white wingback chair gives the chair a casual update (or ages it, depending on how you look at things ;). You can see this chair's easy makeover with feed sack, instead of burlap, here.

No need for the perfect floral arrangement! In a farmhouse-styled home, anything cut fresh from the garden - like these  lilacs - will look right at home.

Aged, chippy furniture graciously absorbs the wear and tear this family with three growing boys and a dog gives it! Even if you don't have children living at home, older furniture, that seems to have a story to tell, adds a lot of charm.

You can see more of our family room styled two different ways here.

I'm so glad you dropped by today. I hope that your week is off to really good start!

  6. My grands ask why I like things all chipped up and then have to paint. I tell them that the items are getting older and just need to put on a little more makeup on them then they will be as good as new! Jo
