Farmhouse Bedroom Makeover {The Bed}

You know those home projects you put off because there are just too many steps? 

You feel too overwhelmed to start?

So, that's been our bedroom. And it wasn't too bad to start with (which made procrastinating all that more easy). But, it wasn't great either and I knew I wanted to make some changes.

You know that old saying, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." Well, how do you makeover a room? One piece of furniture, one wall, one curtain rod at a time!

Painting a Farmhouse Corner Hutch...

After painting the piano, our vintage corner hutch looked like it could use some freshening up. I taped off the glass panes and painted little-by-little. 

It really takes the pressure off when I allow myself to paint an hour here, 

or two hours there. Even just 30 minutes at a time, when I can, rather than trying to get it all done at once. 

DIY "Thankful" Sign For Your Yard, Porch or House

I wanted to share a "Thankful" sign I made last year in case you missed it. This sign is easy to make, but makes a big statement with its size and simple charm.

If you're hosting Thanksgiving this year, this sign would be adorable on a fence, along a driveway or on your porch. Welcome your guests by showing them you are "Thankful" for them! You could even keep going with this sign and add, "For You." As well as using it outdoors, we used this sign (with fence) for a backdrop at an appreciation dinner.

Here's what you need:

Paint stir sticks (long and short) or yard sticks

Hot glue gun

Twine (for hanging letters)

Paint (optional)

I had originally planned to buy wood yard sticks and have them cut into 6", 12" and 24" increments. When I went to Home Depot, their large cutting saw was broken so they offered me a bunch of paint sticks (long and short) for free!

Our Farmhouse Bathroom Makeover (Before & After)

I've missed you! I think this was my longest blogging break to date, and it wasn't by choice. I've been having major computer problems. No fun! I'm glad to be back today and am excited to share pictures from our recent bathroom makeover.

ThAnKfUL {Paint Stir Stick DIY Sign}

I made this simple "Thankful" sign from paint stir sticks. 

Though I had originally thought of making it for the Thanksgiving season, today being Veteran's Day, seemed the perfect day to share it!

Thank you to all of you (and your families) who have served our country and fought to protect our freedom. We remember you and honor you today!

Want to make a stir stick sign of your own?

Here's what you need:

Paint stir sticks (long and short)

Hot glue gun

Twine (for hanging letters)

Paint (optional)

I had originally planned to buy wood yard sticks and have them cut into 6", 12" and 24" increments. When I went to Home Depot, their large cutting saw was broken so they offered me a bunch of paint sticks (long and short) for free!

Here's what you do:

1. Arrange the stir sticks into your desired letters.

2. Hot glue the sticks together to form each letter.

3. Apply a quick coat or two of paint (I laid my letters out on a tarp in the garage and the painting took all of 20 minutes for two coats.)

4. When dry, make a little loop of twine and hot glue to the back of each letter for hanging.

{White} Barnyard Animal Candleholders

You know when you see something in a magazine and think,
 "I love that! I'm SO going to make it!" 

And then, well... life happens and you forget. 
After all, not everything that's cute can be a priority (unless we're talking cute kids!).

Months (or years!) later, you come across that same magazine you've saved. 
You see the dog-eared page and determine that you really will make it. 

But, life comes at you hard and fast, and even with the best 
of intentions, you just can't seem to get your little project done. 

Then, at a random yard sale, you find 
one of the key components to your inspiration project. 
(In my case, it was a bag of candle cups for 50 cents.)

Fireplace Makeover: Before and Afters!

When we first walked through our farmhouse, 

the family room looked like this:

I loved the windows, hardwood floors and wainscoting. 

Right after moving in, I painted above the fireplace white and took down the red curtains over the bookshelves. It really opened up the space.

We kept the fireplace surround with the green stone tiles 

(but I kept my eye on it for months ; ).

This past week, I decided to paint it white 

and am happy with airiness it added to the room!
